The College has embraced the opportunity to ensure a global outlook to integrated learning for all students by developing and delivering our curriculum using our unique Junior Secondary Learning Framework - creating the narrative for the new standard in education.
Our Junior Secondary Learning Framework comprises of key elements that work together to support a holistic view of learning at Brisbane South State Secondary College. Our framework is guided by the Queensland State Schools P-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (CARF) to ensure that we:
Provide students with the required curriculum;
Differentiate teaching so that each student's learning needs are met in ways appropriate to the age, the context in which they are learning and the nature of the curriculum;
Assess and moderate using standards;
Report to parents/carers ad students about their learning and achievement.
The framework is a simple model that captures the complexity of deep learning that occurs across the whole school, ensuring we get basics right, while at the same time, providing the right school conditions for continuous innovation and improvement.
To ensure wellbeing and academic success of all students is at the forefront, Brisbane South's` Learning Framework' comprises of key elements that work together to support a holistic view of learning.
Layer 1
By collectively working together as a learning community to develop deep learning outcomes, capabilities, and practices, we believe that every student can, and will succeed. As lifelong learners, we strive to be:
- Reflective
- Open minded
- Risk-takers
- Caring
- Balanced
- Principled
- Knowledgeable
- Inquirers
- Communicators
- Thinkers
Layer 2
Learners develop a deep self- understanding who they are, what they are capable, and how they can contribute back. They develop the core values to guide their attitudes, behaviours, and beliefs to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.
Layer 3
Learners engage in knowledge acquisition and utilisation in ways that foster greater relationships and interdependencies between disciplines studied, and the phenomena of life outside of school.
They develop a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy and information communication technologies which underpins their learning.
Learners develop the six global competencies (collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, citizenship, and character) that support the meaningful acquisition and utilisation of knowledge to deepen their self-understating, values, connection.
Layer 4
By engaging in the continuous and collaborative inquiry process, our learning community assesses, designs, implements, measures, reflects, and changes experiences to empower learners for a lifetime of learning. With a focus on developing students' self-understanding, connection, knowledge and global competencies, student Inquiries are designed using the pillars of the College's learning ecosystem:
- Learning environments;
- Learning partnerships;
- Leveraging digital;
- Inquiry
Layer 5
Our Learning Framework strengthens our learning community by providing a common language and approach for the key elements needed for growth and success, now and for the long term.
By engaging our learners in meaningful, relevant, and authentic learning experiences, we provide deep learning. We develop learners' self-understanding, connection, knowledge, and the global competencies to create the `New Standard in Education' - readying students to not only keep pace in the new world, but move forward in it with confidence and fulfilment.
