Brisbane South State Secondary College is proud to announce that our College has been recognised as one of seven Excellence Awardees in the category of Street Science Best STEM Program at the Australian Education Awards 2025.
This prestigious award celebrates the most outstanding STEM-based programs implemented by schools across Australia during the 2024 academic year. While we did not take out the top award, being named among the nation’s leading schools is a remarkable achievement and underscores our commitment to innovative STEM education, particularly through our Biomedical Science Academy.
Brisbane South SSC’s STEM program is strategically designed to build the next generation of STEM(M) professionals by providing students with authentic, real-world experiences. Through partnerships with The University of Queensland, CSIRO Ecosciences, the Translational Research Institute, and QIMR, students in the Biomedical Science Academy gain hands-on exposure to advanced laboratory techniques, biomedical research, and emerging technologies such as Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality, and 3D printing.
Our whole-school STEM agenda integrates challenging learning experiences across curriculum, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and curiosity. The Academy supports students at every level to develop leadership, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics within real-world contexts.
We congratulate our STEM teachers and students for their dedication and innovation, and for making Brisbane South SSC a leader in STEM education through initiatives like the Biomedical Science Academy.
