Bring your own device (BYOD) means students bring their own digital devices to school, for the purposes of learning. The BYOD model provides choice and flexibility for our students. At Brisbane South State Secondary College, we have employed this model of learning which gives students the ability to interact with partners in our Knowledge Corridor, explore their curriculum subjects and collaborate with their peers and staff. The goals of the BYOD program is to,

  • Enables the delivery of ICT as an Australian Curriculum general capability
  • Fulfil the Education Queensland Core ICT expectations
  • Promote student learning outside the classroom with our knowledge partners
  • Investigative learning in new and emerging technologies
  • Preparing students for an information technology driven world and so much more.

Brisbane South State Secondary College's BYOD program allows students to have the necessary and required technology where and when they need it, using a device which is familiar, suiting their learning style and capabilities.

Minimum Device Specification for BYOD

To ensure your child has the best experience possible, our team at Brisbane South State Secondary College has put together a minimum specification list. This will enable boundless learning opportunities for your child during their education. The minimum specifications list can be found here.

Please take note of the below caveats

  • Surface RT, Win​dows 10 S / S Mode, Apple MacOS and IPad OS, Google ChromeOS or Chromebook and Android operating systems a​re NOT SUPPORTED. – For a Windows 10 device in S Mode and Windows 11, meeting our minimum specifications, please follow instructions here​​;

  • Parents and Carers; Please note, the new Microsoft Surface Pro X is not compatible with our school network or software requirements. This devices uses ARM based processor tech​​nology. If you wish to look for a Microsoft Surface Tablet, please look at the Surface Pro (Intel), Surface Go or Surface Book as an alternative;

  • Devices that have 64GB or less hard drive space do not have the necessary storage for additional software and OneNote Notebook synchronisation;

  • Devices that have either an Intel Pentium class or Celeron class processor do not meet the minimum specifications of software required for students' education;

  • Brisbane South State Secondary College mandates an absolute minimum processor specification of an Intel Core i3 or greater or an AMD Ryzen 3 or greater with touchscreen and active stylus input capabilities, however our recommended minimum specifications are Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 or greater​.

Microsoft Intune BYOD Connection

In order to connect to our network, you are required to follow the below process. The Intune enrolment process installs a small certificate on your device which allows authentication to the Departmental network.

IT Hub

Our IT Hub is open for students four times daily:

  • ​Before school from 8:00am to 8:30am;
  • First break from 11:20am to 11:45am;
  • Second break from 1:20pm to 1:40pm;
  • After school from 2:50pm to 3:10pm.
The IT Hub is not available for access:

  • ​Thursday morning before school;
  • Friday morning before school - Assembly Day;
  • During class times.
