Brisbane South State Secondary College is delighted to welcome Mr Brendan Barlow as our new Principal in 2026 — an exciting year in which the College will proudly host all year levels from Year 7 to Year 12 for the very first time, including our foundation Year 12 cohort.
Mr Barlow joins BSSSC with extensive leadership experience and a deep commitment to Queensland State Education. Since 2021, he has served as Principal of MacGregor State High School, one of the state’s largest and most culturally diverse schools. Having grown up in North Brisbane and now living in the South, he brings with him both personal and professional pride in the strength of Queensland’s public education system.
At the heart of his leadership philosophy are the values of connection, relationships, family and community. These, he says, guide every decision and interaction.
“I’m genuinely excited and grateful to be joining Brisbane South State Secondary College as Principal in 2026. With the College welcoming all year levels from Years 7 to 12 for the first time, including our foundation Year 12 cohort, it’s a special milestone. I’m looking forward to building on the wonderful work of foundation Principal, Kirsten Ferdinands, and the whole staff team.”
— Mr Brendan Barlow
Mr Barlow is especially eager to meet our incoming Year 7 students, as well as our very first graduating Year 12s, who will help shape a historic moment for the College.
He places strong emphasis on the partnership between school and home and is looking forward to forming meaningful connections with families.
“To our parents and guardians, I truly value the partnership between home and school. I’m looking forward to meeting you, hearing what matters to your family, and working closely together to support every student.”
Students can also expect a Principal who is present, encouraging and deeply invested in their success.
“And to our students, I can’t wait to get to know you, celebrate your achievements and help you make the most of every opportunity.”
As the BSSSC community prepares for another year of growth and achievement, Mr Barlow shares his warmest wishes with all families and looks forward to connecting with the BSSSC community throughout 2026.
