An Early Entry Pathway to the Brisbane South SSC Biomedical Science Academy
Brisbane South SSC Biomedical Explorers is an exciting new excellence program for curious and academically motivated students with an interest in STEM(M) and biomedical science.
Designed for current Year 5 students, the program provides opportunities to engage in authentic STEM(M) learning, explore biomedical concepts and connect with Brisbane South State Secondary College before commencing secondary school.
The program is a supported early-entry pathway, with successful applicants receiving a conditional offer of enrolment into the Brisbane South State Secondary College Biomedical Science Academy for Year 7 in 2028.
Applications are open to current Year 5 students from both within and outside the Brisbane South State Secondary College catchment area.

Who Can Apply?
Applications are open to students who:

Are currently enrolled in Year 5 in 2026;
-
Have an interest in STEM(M), biomedical science, inquiry, innovation and problem-solving;
-
Demonstrate strong academic achievement, attendance, effort and behaviour;
-
Are willing to participate fully in the program’s transition and engagement activities.
Students may apply regardless of whether they live within or outside the Brisbane South State Secondary College catchment area.
Application Process
Applicants will be required to:

Complete the Brisbane South SSC Biomedical Explorers Online Application Form;

Complete the Biomedical Explorers Student Questionnaire;

Submit their Year 4 Semester 1 and Semester 2 report cards;
-
Submit their Year 5 Semester 1 report card;
-
Submit their Year 5 NAPLAN report when available;
-
Pay the non-refundable application processing fee of $400.00 and provide evidence of payment;
-
Sit the Biomedical Explorers Selective Entry Test on Tuesday 20 October 2026;
-
Participate in any additional selection activities, if required.
Successful applicants will receive a conditional offer of enrolment for Year 7 in 2028.
To maintain their conditional offer, students will be required to:

Successfully participate in the program’s transition and engagement activities;
-
Continue to demonstrate excellence in academic achievement, attendance, effort and behaviour throughout Years 5 and 6;
-
Attend an enrolment interview;
-
Meet all other enrolment and program requirements communicated by the college.

Program Fees

Non-refundable application processing fee: $400.00

Biomedical Explorers Program Fee: $150.00, payable by successful applicants receiving a conditional offer

Biomedical Science Academy Confirmation Fee: $200.00, credited towards the Year 7 Biomedical Science Academy program fees for students continuing into the Academy.
Payment of the application processing fee does not guarantee selection or an offer of enrolment.
Conditional Offer of Enrolment
Brisbane South SSC Biomedical Explorers provides a supported early-entry pathway, with successful applicants receiving a conditional offer of enrolment into the Brisbane South State Secondary College Biomedical Science Academy for Year 7 in 2028.
Conditional offers will be issued to successful applicants on Friday 6 November 2026 and will remain subject to the student meeting the college’s academic, attendance, effort, behaviour, participation and enrolment requirements throughout Years 5 and 6.
